Two acrylic paintings for you to ponder....

Nasturtiums (24x30), and Hydrangeas (22x28). No frames - wrap-around canvas edges.

Whoops - the tops of the paintings are a bit cut-off, but I am a painter, not a photographer.

The light areas are actually metalic silver paint though they have photographed as white.

(These are currently on loan for one year to the University of Washington Womens' Clinic).

Sumi (ink) study for California Poppies

California Poppies

sold

sold

Two different rice papers, one a brighter white, are laminated in order to give the painting more strength. The backing paper is MASA; the others are handmade Korean and Chinese papers - difficult to paint on and very absorbent. No ink was used here, only Japanese watercolors which use a glue binder, not the gum arabic of western watercolors such as Winsor Newton. The glue is made from cornstarch and aloe cooked over low heat. These three paintings are still wet. As they dry they will lighten somewhat.
